Summer is finishing and university is soon to start. This can only mean one thing. Hoards of freshers! In celebration of this we will be attending various university fairs in order to recruit this seasons team.
So if your a hockey player
or interested in ice hockey and are attending a Higher Education institution in Scotland, then we invite you to attend our stands at the Napier University Freshers Fair on the 10th of September or the Edinburgh University Sports Fair on 16th and 17th at the Pleasance Sports Hall.

So who exactly are we?
We were formed in 2003 and are an Ice hockey club that caters primarily to university players. We accept players from any higher education institution in Scotland. Currently we have players who study at institutions all over Scotland. We also cater to a wide variety of skill levels and talent, from complete beginners to players that have represented Great Britain at major tournaments.
Which university does this team belong to? Can students only from that university join the team?
This club was created by students from a wide variety of higher education institutions in Scotland and we accept students studying at any University in Scotland.
So, I'm a complete beginner. I can't even skate, but I want to start playing hockey. What's next?
Okay, we can definitely help you out. Firstly we’ll help you to learn to skate at public skating sessions. Once you got several hours of skating experience, we can lend you some equipment so you can come to our training sessions and try your abilities out. You'll also be able to play for the Edinburgh Beagles which is our beginners squad.
Can girls play too?
Of course you can. Our club is open to all!
When do we practice?
We usually practice at Murrayfield Ice Rink Thursday nights at 11:15pm, but we often schedule in additional practices. Details of our practice schedule can be found at edinburgheagles.com
Do I need my own Kit?
No, we have extra kits for use primarily by beginners, however over time we expect any player that is borrowing kit to obtain their own. Due to the tough nature of the sport, protective equipment is mandatory.
What kit do I need to have?
From top to bottom, the full kit list is: Helmet, Mouth Guard, Shoulder Pads, Elbow Pads, Hockey Gloves, Shorts, Leg Pads, Skates and Stick. If you are under 21 you must also wear a full face visor. After age 21 a half visor is optional on your helmet. For ladies a full face visor is mandatory at all times. These rules are strictly enforced by league authorities.
How much does it cost to join?
Assuming you already have you own kit and are committed to the team, you will only need to pay for insurance and practice. Insurance costs £40 a year. Each practice costs £10.
Who do we play?
Depending on your ability our various teams that play in different leagues. The Beagles are our beginners squad that plays against other beginner university teams. The Phoenix (our intermediate squad) play other Scottish recreational squads. Finally there are the Edinburgh Eagles. The Eagles are our senior squad made up of experienced members. The Eagles play in the top University Ice Hockey League against the best squads in the U.K. All our schedules can be found at edinburgheagles.com.

13/09/09 Public Skating Session, 2:30pm -4:30pm, Murrayfield Ice Rink
Come meet the squad and go for a spin around the rink. We will firstly meet up at 2pm in front of Usher Hall. From there we'll make our way to the rink for a skating session' This will be followed by some Drinks at the local pub. Admission is £4 and if you need skates please email us beforehand at: secretary@edinburgheagles.com with your shoe size so we can arrange a pair.
19/09/09 Soundtrack of Pheagle Hockey, 7pm , Henry's cellar Bar, 8-16 Morrison Street
A night out for the whole club dedicated to raising money for the club, listening to some live acts and a drink or too or maybe more. Admission is £4.

4/10/09 Edinburgh Phoenix vs Whitley Bay Wildcats, 6:30pm, Murrayfield Ice Rink
Our first game of the season. We've never lost at home to the wildcats and we don't expect to now either. Great chance for players to get some rust off from the summer break and for the newbies to see what it's all about. As always the game will be followed by a visit to some post-game drinking at edinburgh's pubs and clubs.
